BEETROOT

++ Anti-ageing.
++ Controls and reduces blemishes.
++ Moisturises and hydrates the skin.

If you want your skin to have a lovely health glow, then you need antioxidants, and what better way to get them, than with a few slices of delicious beetroot! It contains the antioxidant known as anthocyanin which will neutralise free radicals and help in the prevention of wrinkles and aid in the removal of blemishes. They can help in more way than one and assist in providing your body with much needed nutrients.

  • 1 percent Vitamin A
  • 2 percent Calcium
  • 11 percent Vitamin C
  • 6 percent Iron

It’s great to eat beetroot, but the beetroot juice is also a great way to help the skin (Recipes will be in our next blog}. It’s actually the vitamin C found in the juice of a beetroot which will help get rid of those blemishes you have! It will exfoliate and remove the top layer of your skin, keeping it hydrated and moisturised at the same time.

CARROT

++ Collagen Synthesis
++ Reduces fine lines, wrinkles and blemishes.
++ UV Protection
++ Hydrates the skin

  • 557 percent Vitamin A
  • 10 percent Vitamin C
  • 11 percent Vitamin K

Carrots do more than help you see in the dark. They contain high amounts of Beta-Carotene and also contain other anti-oxidants, minerals and the all important vitamin A. Eating carrots will leave your skin feeling zestful and healthy and not only that, but drinking carrot juice on a regular basis can help reduce small scars, or blemishes on the skin. Wow.The vitamin C which is present aids in the production of collagen (which we need to maintain the elasticity of the skin). In turn this will prevent fine lines and wrinkles and hopefully subside the process of ageing for a while! The vitamin A is an anti-oxidant which fight free radicals in a big way, providing protection against pigmentation, blemishes and wrinkles. The carotenoids (beta-carotene) do an important job in protecting the skin against the suns harmful UV rays and to also heal sunburn. Last but not least, carrots are rich in potassium which will hydrate and moisturise our beautiful skin.

PUMPKIN SEED

++ Moisturise the skin
++ Premature ageing
++ Acne reduction

  • 0.5 percent Vitamin A
  • 3 percent Vitamin C
  • 237 percent Vitamin E

These super foods are high in minerals, anti-oxidants and contain copious amounts of vitamin A and E as well as vitamin K and B. Due to the unsaturated fatty acids like omega-3 that are present in pumpkin seeds, they are able to keep the skin healthy and hydrated. We know that too much exposure to the sun can assist in damaging the skin as well as playing a role in premature ageing and consuming pumpkin seeds will help stop this. Pumpkin seeds, containing the anti-oxidants vitamin A and E will fight free radicals, thus helping to slow down the effects of ageing and if you’re a acne sufferer, then these little seeds are sure to help! High in zinc, this acts as an anti-inflammatory which can reduce redness and the chance of your skin scarring.  Vitamin A motivates the production of new skin cells and also helps to repair the existing skin problems .

SPINACH

++ Anti-ageing
++ Cell repair
++ Anti-inflammatory properties

  • 312 percent Vitamin A
  • 47 percent Vitamin C
  • 13.5 percent Vitamin E
  • 402 percent Vitamin K

Full of anti-oxidants, spinach reduces the onset of wrinkles. It contains anti-inflammatory properties which flush out any nasty toxins you have hanging around, plus strengthens the skin tissues. It is a super food that is not only rich in iron, but also contains anti-oxidants vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E and vitamin K as well as vital minerals, making this food a definite in your one of five a day. It can clear up acne (recipe for a face mask in next blog), refreshes and rejuvenates, plus protects the skin against harmful UV rays, therefore helping with premature ageing, and of course, skin cancer. Eating spinach will keep you youthful as the antioxidants present, fight against free radicals. The vitamin K will keep your complexation clear, giving you a nice glow, while vitamin C aids in cell repair.

SWEET POTATO

++ Anti-ageing
++ Moisturises
++ Helps with dark under eye circles

  • 473 percent Vitamin A
  • 4 percent Vitamin C
  • 2 percent Vitamin E
  • 1.5 Percent Vitamin K

Sweet potato contains vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E and vitamin K as well as vital minerals that the body requires. Vitamin C as previously discussed will aid in the production of collagen, and will also assist in cell repairs. The anti-oxidant Beta-Carotene (vitamin A) repairs cells that have been damaged by the harmful UV rays, and provides a layer of protection to the skin from sun damage. If you happen to have had an awful nights sleep, the anti-inflammatory properties will help reduce the appearance of dark under eye circles and puffiness.
